The Role of the Easter Bunny

Jul 01, 2024
Historical Origins

The Easter Bunny's story is believed to have originated from ancient pagan traditions. In pre-Christian Europe, many springtime festivals celebrated the return of fertility and life, often symbolized by the hare, an animal known for its prolific breeding. One such festival was dedicated to Eostre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring and fertility, who was often depicted with a hare or rabbit.

As Christianity spread, these pagan symbols were incorporated into Easter celebrations. The rabbit, a symbol of fertility, became associated with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, symbolizing new life and hope.
